Frequently Asked Questions
How much will my first appointment cost?
Please give our clinic a call, and we would be happy to discuss fees for the first appointment, and for subsequent appointments. If we receive a referral from your GP, you can expect a call to clarify costs for the visit so you can make an informed decision.
How do I schedule an appointment with Dr Grundy?
First, you will need a referral from your GP or referring specialist. Once this has been forwarded to our rooms, please contact the clinic and our receptionists will be happy to arrange an appointment.
Do I need a GP referral to make an appointment?
Yes, due to medicare requirements, we require a referral from your General Practitioner, or another specialist. Please see your GP to arrange a referral for a Rheumatology assessment if you feel you require a Rheumatologist opinion.
Do you offer Telehealth appointments?
The First appointment is required to be in person, to allow better understanding of yourself, your condition and the impacts on your lifestyle. This will allow us to most accurately diagnose and provide an appropriate initial management plan and next step investigations. Thereafter, up to every second visit in the setting of stable rheumatological disease, can be provided via telehealth, which may help to reduce travel burden.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
For your first appointment, we will require a referral from your GP or referring specialist. If you are able to, please fill out our New Patient Information Form. If you have had imaging outside of Far North Queensland, please bring the reports and/or results. We would appreciate it if you also have an up to date medication list. Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the appointment time if able, and expect a 45-60 minute discussion.
What conditions does Trent Grundy Specialise in treating?
Dr Grundy is confident in diagnosing and managing all variety of Rheumatological conditions including inflammatory and crystal arthritis (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Gout, Pseudogout), autoimmune connective tissue diseases (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Sjogren’s) as well as Myositis and Vasculitis.
Do you accept health insurance?
No, unfortunately, health insurance does not cover visits with specialist physicians, however, Medicare offers a rebate which will cover a percentage of the total visit fee.
Do you bulk bill?
No, unfortunately, we do not provide a bulk billing service.
What are the payment options for consultation and treatment:
Please contact our office and our staff will be happy to discuss with you the cost, and payment options for clinical assessment and follow up.
How soon can I expect to receive test results or follow up after my appointment?
During your initial appointment, Dr Grundy will discuss the timing of the follow up appointment. For routine blood results, and baseline X Rays or similar imaging, these will be discussed at the next clinic, but for more complex imaging or treatment altering blood results, Dr Grundy will arrange a follow up appointment or phone call.
How can I request prescription refills or medical records?
For prescription refills, aside from biologic medicine therapies, refills can be done during arranged clinics, or can be obtained from your GP. If you run out between clinics and can not attend your GP, please let our office know and Dr Grundy may be able to provide a refill. There will be a small cost associated with this. If your biologic script is running out, please contact our office with at least a month notice if you don’t have an upcoming appointment, so that we can arrange the needed investigations and clinical assessment to provide the repeat script.
